Until today, I did not know that being able to learn is a great opportunity. I thought that having education is a normal standard for all children. However, there are existing children whom have strong will to learn but are not able to. Instead of riding a bus to school in the morning, they ride a bus to factories and workshops. Instead of learning in classrooms, they are stuck in a room to make endless amounts of clothing, mattresses and more. They are children forced to child labor.
Countries that are suffering extreme poverty, mostly Sub Africa and South Asia are in a deadly situation of violating the rights of children. Children are free. Unlike adults, they are in the stage of learning new things in the unknown world. They are still vulnerable, needing attention and supervision from their parents. They are in the stage of growing mature. However, those children who are still in need of warm care from their mothers are being neglected by the society. Over 158 million of these children in the ages of 5 through 14 are engaged in “child labor”. They are forced to contribute to harsh labor that is unbelievably difficult to complete with such small fingers. They work for almost the entire day, without resting. Most of them are children that were sold from their parents. The children are slaves of factories until their parents are able to repay the debt they have. However, it is very unlikely for them to be able to pay back their debts, and is more likely to be considered as a life long job. They work as domestic servants in dangerous sites that are related to chemical activities, machinery etc. Some of the children are even confined and beaten. This exposes them to physical and psychological harm. None of them have the opportunity to grow through a normal childhood like others do in advanced countries. It is the world’s hope that these innocent children will not be used as slaves, but will be given the chance to learn and play. However, in order to solve this problem, we have to contribute through many steps.
Children of child labor are denied from education. Their labor interferes from them to have proper education. None of them have the chance to learn. They are abducted to slavery. However, if we will ensure that all of the children will attend school of education that is of good quality. By doing this, we will be able to prevent child labor. Organizations such as the UNICEP and Human Rights Watch is contributing to give protection to children from violence, exploitation, and abuse. We should aslo change our public attitudes toward children, and elevate the importance of education. There should also be stronger enforcement of anti-child labor laws, and give stronger punishment to people whom violate this rule. If only we will change these factors, we will be able to change the life of innoccent children, and give them the chance of education.
